OVER 18? A decade over 18!
CHARACTERS IN-GAME: Tarrlok (
bloodisthicker)
▶ CHARACTER
NAME: Seteth
CANON: Fire Emblem: Three Houses
CANON POINT: Chapter 21 of the Silver Snow route, around the beginning of the month.
AGE: boy what a complicated question, uh, apparently the game data says he’s physically 26 even if he definitely looks older but he’s actually over 1,000.
BACKGROUND: Here’s his wiki link!
PERSONALITY: The first impression you’re likely to get of Seteth is that he’s a strict, humorless stick in the mud, which is just about what you’d expect from someone ranked highly in a religious organization. It’s… not an entirely inaccurate assessment, mind; he takes extremely poorly to those deemed a threat to the Church of Seiros, and even in more casual circumstances, when it comes to those given to vices like laziness and drunkenness, he’s prone to the sort of passive aggressive lectures that you’d expect from your deeply religious aunt about how the Goddess knows all your sins and whatnot, and he rather famously combs the monastery library for, uh, inappropriate content. Which is why it’s completely hilarious to throw him into Prismatica, honestly. He’s also a bit guarded and slow to trust, and even more famously overprotective of his, uh, “younger sister (read: daughter),” Flayn, who he dotes on just about obsessively and whose relationships he tends to meddle with, especially when it comes to boys.
With that said, well… he does have his reasons to be a bit of a worrier, given his history. He is considerably better adjusted than, uh, many people in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, but he’s still had to deal with the near-complete genocide of his people, along with the subsequent death of his wife and near-loss of his daughter that left her sleeping for several centuries that happened during the War of Heroes. He is still known to have been strict back when he was Saint Cichol, but his propensity towards overprotectiveness is likely due to, uh, that, given that he still blames himself for what happened due to him losing track of them in the heat of battle and putting too much responsibility on Flayn’s shoulders when she was still young. He’s generally fairly good at keeping himself together, but he absolutely falls to pieces when Flayn is kidnapped, for one thing, and it’s pretty clear that he’s still afraid of failing others in a similar way considering he gets himself injured protecting Catherine in their support.
He is also sitting on the fact that he, Flayn, and Rhea have a lot of secrets to them! Like the fact that they’re all over a millennium old and that they’re dragon saints. Given that uhhhh his people were slaughtered for their blood and bones, one can definitely forgive him for being a little cagey about his and his daughter’s true identities, especially when it comes to certain people who are too interested in things like his and Flayn’s Crests. He’s a bit less cagey if he trusts someone, and, well… honestly, he doesn’t even know all the shit Rhea got up to, so he may be tiring of secrets a bit. Just a bit. He’s at least better at hiding his true identity than Flayn, though he’ll occasionally complain about being old despite looking reasonably young and he is so aggressively a dad that multiple people catch on to him being Flayn’s father, if not him being an ancient dragon saint man. He literally cannot stop being a dad.
This actually extends beyond just Flayn, because he kind of dads basically everyone he comes in contact with. Whenever he actually gets down to talking with most people outside of his official capacity as advisor to the Archbishop, he’s actually a kind, open-minded mentor figure to the majority of the students at Garreg Mach who is… perhaps a little too quick to give advice that’s unasked for, but he does his best to try and help others with their worries and try to guide people on the right path. And, well, he’s not bad at it at all, honestly. While he’s definitely devout as hell, he’s pretty flexible on how people approach the faith and encourages open-mindedness. He also seems pretty aware of the flaws with the Crest system, and is… uhhhh… less than pleased to learn the true extent of Rhea got up to. It could be argued that he doesn’t do enough to stop Rhea from getting all PURGE THE APOSTATES on everyone, which… yes, but his primary goal is generally to protect Flayn and when he feels like Rhea’s too far gone he does leave to go into hiding rather than aiding her in, uh, going bananas.
He also gets extremely excited about being able to indulge in his hobbies and it’s very cute. One of the big ones is fishing, which… well… he’s not actually good at until Leonie showed him, because he used to rely on his wife to bait his hooks. It took him a goddamn millenium to learn how to bait his own fishing hooks. What a useless loser. He would still do it just to relax and think of better days for a good long while until he actually learns how to fish, at which point he gets really into it and catches like fifty fish at once. He is also really into writing children’s books and fables, a hobby he sort of started off with when he was being a dad to Flayn and was just unable to turn off. He’s a bad artist so he’s definitely looking for illustrators, but he’s inevitably really stoked whenever he can get a hold of a good illustrator to help him write books for kids.
...so, yeah, the gap moe is strong with this one. He’s definitely the sort of person who’s got a hard, intimidating exterior and a soft, adorable interior.
POWERS/ABILITIES: As a Nabatean (i.e. a direct descendant of the Goddess Sothis), Seteth used to have a bunch of wild and crazy powers that would allow him to transform into some undescribed dragon form at will, but unfortunately for us dragonfuckers, he lost that ability sometime over the millennia. Now, he’s… mostly on par with your average human (albeit your average human skilled in sword, lance, and axe combat, commanding battalions, and riding flying creatures like wyverns) in the setting of Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Mostly.
The primary differences lie in his extended lifespan and his Crest, which is a magical… blood… thing… that gives him some special combat abilities. His crest, the Crest of Cichol, uh… prevents counterattacks when using combat arts? And it draws out some extra abilities in specific divine weapons and shields, which are described in his inventory. Yeah, it’s kind of hard to find a use for that outside of TRPG combat, but in fairness, several characters in the game itself note that Crests only seem attuned to combat, so eh.
Other Nabateans (like Rhea and Flayn) have been able to extend humans’ lives and impart their Crests upon them by injecting them with their blood, but while Seteth has clearly done that in the past, it’s unclear if his blood would have the same effects at present or if that’s another thing he’s lost along with his ability to change forms. It’s… pretty unlikely to come up in Prismatica, though. Unlike Rhea, he isn’t prone to giving his blood out like candy.
INVENTORY: The Spear of Assal, a Silver Axe, a Silver Sword, the Ochain Shield, and a wyvern that’s been shrunk to the size of a cat.
MOONBLESSING: Sanguis
